ParticipantI’ve been thinking a lot about timing lately because we’re planning a move to another state this year. The last time I moved was in the middle of July, and honestly it was exhausting. The heat, higher prices, and the rush of other families relocating at the same time made everything feel more stressful than it probably needed to be. Back then I didn’t really research much, we just picked a date that worked with my job schedule.
Now I’m wondering if there’s actually a “best” season to move. Some people say spring is easier, others say fall is cheaper and less busy. I also read on allmovers.org that summer tends to be peak season, which explains my previous experience. For those who’ve done this before, what time of year worked best for you and why? -

ParticipantFrom what I’ve seen, late fall or early spring can be a sweet spot. When we moved in October, it felt way calmer compared to summer. The weather was mild, and movers seemed more flexible with scheduling. I was also trying to figure out the cheapest way to move cross country, so I spent some time reading about different budget-friendly options and planning strategies. One article I found helpful breaks down the budget-friendly options and explains the cheapest way to move cross country in simple terms. It’s not pushy or anything, just practical advice about timing, booking early, and comparing services. In my case, avoiding peak season saved us a decent amount, and we didn’t feel rushed. I’d say it really depends on your flexibility with dates and how far you’re going.

ParticipantReading this made me realize how different everyone’s moving experience can be. I’ve only moved locally a couple of times, and even that felt like a big project. It’s interesting how factors like weather, schedules, and even school calendars can influence the decision. Planning ahead seems to make a huge difference no matter the season. I guess moving is one of those life events where a bit of preparation can really reduce stress.
