I’m planning to start my own online store and sell products through dropshipping. In my opinion, that’s the most convenient way to run this kind of business. You don’t have to keep your own warehouse, deal with logistics, or any of that. But people keep telling me I should open an LLC right away. Personally, I feel like that’s just extra hassle and money down the drain. What do you guys think, is it actually worth it?

They usually recommend opening an LLC to protect yourself. Because there’s a risk the supplier could send your customer something defective, something that could even harm their health. And you’d end up getting sued. With an LLC, your personal property and personal money stay protected. They’d be suing the LLC instead, which you could just take through bankruptcy if it comes to that.

Opening an LLC honestly isn’t a bad call, just maybe not right out the gate. See how the first few months go before you commit to anything extra. Everyone goes in picturing their product flying off the shelves, then reality hits and it’s three sales a week if you’re lucky. You can read an article that answers the question: do you need an LLC for dropshipping https://easync.io/articles/llc-for-dropshipping/ . It breaks down the actual tradeoffs of running things that way instead of just telling you yes or no. Worth reading before you decide which way to go.
