I’m officially banned from my own kitchen! I was prepping dinner tonight and noticed that the double sink is draining incredibly slowly. I tried to turn on the garbage disposal to see if that would clear it, but it just makes this low humming sound and doesn’t spin at all. Now there’s a lovely soup of grey water sitting in both basins and it smells… well, not like dinner. I’ve tried the hex wrench trick at the bottom of the unit, but it’s stuck solid. Does anyone have a recommendation for a technician who can come out to the Westboro area? I really don’t want to replace the whole unit if it’s just a bad jam, but I definitely need a professional to look at it before my kitchen becomes a biohazard zone.

I had that exact same “hum of death” from my disposal last Christmas right when I had 10 people coming over! It’s the worst timing. I tried to fix it myself with a coat hanger (bad idea, don’t do that) and ended up making a tiny leak in the pipe. We finally called a local plumber ottawa https://superiorplumbing.ca/ottawa/ and I honestly wish I’d just called them first. They were great—the tech actually found a small piece of a broken shot glass that had wedged itself perfectly into the impeller. He cleared it out, checked all the seals, and even gave me some advice on what NOT to put down there (apparently potato peels are the enemy). They were very fast and the price was much lower than I expected for a same-day visit. Definitely worth a call!

Broken glass? I didn’t even think of that! I’ll give them a shout right now. I’d much rather have a pro fix it than risk losing a finger trying to DIY it. Thanks!
