I’m moving to a new apartment next week, and the thing I’m most stressed about isn’t the furniture or the boxes of kitchen stuff – it’s my computer setup. I work from home, so my desktop PC, two monitors, and all the cables and peripherals are basically my livelihood. If something gets damaged during the move, I can’t work until it’s fixed or replaced, which means lost income on top of the cost of repairs. I’ve been trying to figure out the safest way to pack everything. The monitors worry me the most because they’re large, thin, and have delicate screens. The PC itself is heavy and has components inside that don’t like being bounced around. I’ve been looking online for advice, and I came across some smart tips for securing items while moving that mention using original boxes when possible, padding everything well, and keeping electronics in the car with me instead of in the moving truck. I still have the original boxes for the monitors, thank goodness, but I don’t have the foam inserts anymore. I’m thinking of using bubble wrap and towels to pad them, but I’m not sure if that’s enough. For anyone who has moved a home office setup – what did you do to keep everything safe? Did you take any special precautions for hard drives or other sensitive components? And is it worth removing the graphics card and CPU cooler from the PC before moving, or am I being too paranoid? I’d rather be overly careful than deal with a broken computer after the move. Any advice would be really appreciated because I’m losing sleep over this.
